Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, built on a narrow isthmus and surrounded by extinct volcanoes. It is home to over one million people which is about a third of New Zealand's population of four million persons living in harmony of all ethnic origins.
Also known as the 'City of Sails', Auckland is a unique multicultural mix that provides richness and character. Often voted one of the best lifestyle cities in the world, it is very fast, and very fashionable. With three harbours and a gulf full of islands, it is much about the ocean as it is about the land. Viaduct Basin (home of America's Cup yacht racing 2002-3) has added more new restaurants bars and activities. Auckland with it's multi culture population feature cuisine styles of Europe, Mediterranean, Polynesia, Japan and Thailand to name a just a few. Auckland City including the stylish areas of Parnell and Ponsonby have a reputation for great art and fashion which provide for a rewarding shopping experience.
From the Airport the airbus shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes stops at most hotels and connecting transportation. The link bus circulates clockwise and counterclockwise around the intercity area. The Explorer Bus is for sightseeing includes the 14 major attractions in the city. Motor Homes and Rental cars from budget compacts, 4 wheel drives to stylish convertibles are available but to avoid disappointment it is best to make a reserve in advance for pick up at the Airport on arrival

The Islands of the Hauraki Gulf
A short ferry ride from Auckland will land you on one of the many distinct islands in the gulf. Wander through the world's largest Pohutukawa Forest on Rangitoto , a black lava volcanic Island or take your tramping boots to the rugged Great Barrier Island which is a haven for rare birds, lizards and stressed out city fork! Waiheke Island for wine tasting and beachcombing and Motuihe Island to sunbathe and swim.
